Presenters: Molly Whitmere (Spanish), Tina Bassi (Spanish)and Sue Shelton (Latin).
Presentation Description:
The Florida Virtual School Foreign Language team will provide instruction and resources for teachers to create a class webpage. The presentation will include a demonstration on how to use free sites such as schoolnotes.com and scholastic.com for novice participants, as well as html editors or Microsoft Word for more advanced users. The session will include hands-on practice time in a computer lab. Participants will receive a CD.
FLVS: publicly funded districts in Florida, over 33,000 students with over 60,000 courses.
This presentation is geared to the complete newbie, as well as for the teacher who has already plunged into the online world of having a classroom website.
Reasons to have a classroom website:
? Students and parents can access it as needed
? Teacher can convey important messages
? Teacherscan provide resources for extra help
Caution:
Check with school administration for any regulations
Be careful using the school’s name without permission
Don’t use students’ work without parents’ permission
With NO experience (free services):
Schoolnotes.com
Offers to create your own flascards
Scholastics.com
Does have advertisement, but not are kid friendly,
With a yearly fee:
Teacherweb.com ($27.00/year)
Myteacherpages.com (30 day free trial $20 /year)
Neat Tools
Include a calendar into your webpage
Localendar.com (provides RSS feed)
I see great potential for calendars such as localendar, since an entire great level faculty could have access to it and all enter their important dates, so the other teachers can see it as well, it could be avoided to schedule several tests on the same day.
