Vicki Davis’ Introduction to Wikis Presentation
I have been working with Wikispaces for a while now and am using it successfully with my Parent & Teacher Technology class as well. I appreciated Vicki’s awesome presentation as a way for me to wrap my understanding of Wikis somewhat together. It allowed me to see another venue to coherently and sequentially (in simple terms) explain the concept of wikis to novices and start a discussion of the potential for teachers and students (as seen from the eyes of a parent).
I still remember when I heard about Wikis for the first time and how painfully slow the process of understanding was. I was very concious how my brain was trying to wrap itself around the concept of this tool. How to use it and the realization of the full potential (that I could not even envision) was extremely overwhelming.
Vicki’s willingness to explain and share her expertise and resources are truly in the spirit of sharing and social networking. I am going to start a Wiki project with my 5th and 6th graders in the new year. Thanks to the coolcatteacher, the process should go a lot smoother.
P.S.
I loved Viki’s use of sayings in her presentation:
“Don’t be a doorknob” A doorknob is a person who sits there waiting for someone else to turn them and make them move and then they go right back into their former position.
