I am teaching a 10 week Web 2.0 information class for parents and teachers at my school. I was so impressed and learned so much from the LAN parties held in Shanghai, China by Jeff Utecht and his colleagues and principal that I decided to do something similar with my class as well. So I “surprised” them this week with the news that we were going to put “the money where our mouth is” and not only learn about the Read/Write web, but we are actually going to contribute to this vast amount of knowledge and information. To their “horror” I pulled out my iPod with the iTalk and proceeded to tell them that we were going to record them for a podcast that would be uploaded, linked and tagged, so people around the world could find it and listen to what we had to say. I encouraged them that even if they felt, that they knew too little to be able to add something…. there would be someone, somewhere out there, who is exactly in their shoes and would be able to learn from their trials, errors, discoveries and point of views. Everyone seemed a little shy and self- conscious as soon as the iTalk was turned on. Everyone introduced themselves, what level of technology user they considered themselves, explained why they were taking this class and what they were hoping to learn from it. I had created CDs with as many presentations from the K-12 Online Conference as I could fit on one, so they were able to run the audio and video directly off the CD and then take it home with them. The assignment was as follows:
Can’t wait to hear what this group of ladies will come up with!
