FETC 2007- NComputing
Turn 1 computer into the equivalent of 30 (up to 10 with Windows XP Home/Pro/Media Center, Windows 2000 Professional) PCs!! No Hard Drive, CPU or CD ROM ; yet each NStation functions as an ordinary computer.
Very interesting the possibilities of expanding one PC to become seven more stations in the classroom. The vendor explained to us that typically a computer is not used to its full potential 100% of the time and that it can supply resources to all the others that will feed off of it without slowing them down. The chart we were shown showed that the main computer should have at least 1 GB of RAM to be able run efficiently. I am not so sure however how that would look like in reality when all 7 stations want to download a heavy movie clip.
We left our school’s address and we are supposed to receive an invitation for an application for a demo to be sent to us. A credit card is required to receive it, but the charge will be refunded upon the return of the demo.
The proce (for the USB model, see picture below on the right) was about $70 per computer added to the station. The ethernet model (pix on the left) was a little bit more expensive.
The impressive feature of these stations, beside the price, would be that one only needed to install or update any programs on the main computer and all the other stations would have access to it.
So I wonder, if Google Earth were to be installed on the main PC, would all six others be able to run the program simultaneously?
