Second Life- Getting Started

Another one hits Second Life.

After David Warlick demonstrating his Second Life Avatar, I have ventured into this amazing virtual world. I have started “teleporting” to specific locations that I am reading about on blogs of other edubloggers, such as Technospud (aka Jennifer Wagner), The Four Eyed Technologist, and Kathy Dryburgh (aka Kathy Schrock). One evening, when visiting ISTE’s Second Life area, “The four eyed technologist, gave me a tour of ISTE. It was amazing!! Unfortunately I am not able to spend too much time on SL, but short 5 minute visits here and there is enough to learn one little thing each time. Small portions. Walking, Mouseview, sitting down, turning around, NOT running into a wall, etc. are all skills that need to be practiced. In addition, I am switching back and fourth between PC and MAC when I venture in SL.

I will document my ventures in SL in order to encourage others to see what this virtual world can hold for educators. For now meet my SL avatar: Hex Rau.

    Hi Hex:

I’m glad you enjoyed your visit to ISTE!

Never hesitate to contact me when you are in SL (Avatar: Existential Paine) as I’d be more than happy to help you with the learning curve. After all, we should all be helping one another with this process :-)

    Hope to see you around,
Ryan Bretag, The Four Eyed Technologist
