By all means I am not a video gamer. I think the only video games I ever played was the original “Pong”, maybe a game of “Pacman” and more recently “Spyro”, the little dragon. Second Life intrigues me though…
I am bravely trying to “practice” everyday in SL, even just for a little bit. I even went ahead a purchased a book “Second Life: The official guide“.
Here are some of my observations and thoughts:
- I am mostly hanging around (teleporting) within the EduIsland. I feel a little odd going on my own to another part of SL, that I don’t know what or who will greet me. Not too different to the real life (RL). I really would like to find a RL friend who would want to explore SL with me. I think that would make many newbies feel better.
- Maybe due to my schedule, I have not been able to make many SL announced socials or meetings. Most of the time when I am wondering around, I do not see or meet anyone. So far that has been fine with me, since I am still embarrassingly crashing to the floor after practicing descending from flying.
- I would love to learn how to design and upload my own clothes. I have not been able to get out of the generic jeans and a shirt.
- I have the basic account and don’t really want to start spending money in SL, when I need to be saving more money in RL. I am curious though how much US$ a typical educator on SL spends per month. Clothes, rent, building, etc.
- I can’t seem to be able to get my avatar to look the way I want it to look. Except the eye color, everything seems to be off. I have a new admiration for people who are able to describe a person to the dot, so the police can make a detailed drawing.
- I would like to attend a college class held in SL
- I am wondering about Teen Second Life… Have not decided if I will try to convince my 17 year old daughter to join, so I can peek over her shoulder.
