Trackbacks to your Blog

I think Trackbacks are a great idea and add to the value of a continued conversation through blogs. They allow a blogger to write a response to a particular post AND let the author know that it was posted and where. Others reading the original post can follow the breadcrumb trail to that response.

A Trackback is one of three types of Linkbacks, methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles.

So far, I have not figured out how to leave a trackback from the Langwitches Blog. All the options seem enabled and checked off. Nevertheless have none of my posts where I pasted the trackback URL have ever shown up, nor have any other trackbacks published on the blog as far as I could see.

I have found a WordPress Trackback Tutorial by Optiniche. That explains the process in detail.

Will try again to see if I missed something in the process…

After researching more, I am trying to find out how to add a Trackback link to the end of each of my posts. I don’t know if it is theme that automatically adds it our a plugin I have to add separately?

I have found the following advice from Tech at Hand:

How Will you find a Trackback Address ?It is sometime shown at the lower portion of the WordPress blog post. If it is not visible, You just have to add the ” trackback/ ” from all your links. For example instead of using the following link :

http://…../i-have-learn-my-lesson-on-how-to-earn-from-linking-to-other-site/

Try to use

http://…./i-have-learn-my-lesson-on-how-to-earn-from-linking-to-other-site/trackback/

After much tutorial and forum readings, I have finally figured out how to add that pesky Trackback link to each post in my current WordPress theme.

I edited the index.php page by adding the following code

<a href=”<?php the_permalink() ?>trackback/”>Trackback This Post</a></p>

right after topics and categories. Now anyone wanting to link, should be able to right click and “Copy Link Location” in order to add that URL to their post. Hopefully trackbacks are going to show up on the blog in the future.
