With regard to KidPix, I recommend educators check out and use TuxPaint if KidPix is not available. TuxPaint is free and cross-platform. It functions similarly to KidPix.

After a little bit of head scratching I realized I could take a screen shot of my avatar and re-save it in paint. It worked

I created an avatat but it will only save in .bmp, it doesn’t allow me to choose .jpg or anything else. Did you come across this problem? I’m using a Dell, do you think it would work if I used a Mac?

Frank, KidPix is a commercial product. Well worth its price. We use it a lot at the elementary school level.
