Responsibilities of a Travel Team

While planning a physical trip to foreign countries in order to take your entire school with on a virtual trip, the travel team has the following responsibilities

  1. Pre-Trip
    1. Travel itinerary and tickets, visas, immunizations
    2. Journey Theme and connection to previous and future trips
    3. Creation, design and set up of Travel Blog
    4. Country research
      1. geography
      2. culture
      3. people
      4. history
      5. stereotypes
      6. language
  2. Technology equipment knowledge to use and troubleshoot
    1. Laptop
    2. Camcorder
    3. Digital Cameras
    4. MP3 recorders
  3. Blog
    1. posts, pages, commenting
    2. follow and focus on cultural universals, travel theme and story
    3. tagging
    4. categories
    5. Resources
    6. Language Template
    7. Embedded map
  4. Photo Galleries
    1. shooting, editing, uploading, organizing
    2. embedding into blog
    3. tagging
    4. sets
  5. MP3 recordings
    1. recording
    2. editing
    3. uploading during and post trip
  6. Video Recordings
    1. recording
    2. editing
    3. uploading during and post trip
  7. Video Conferencing
    1. set-up with our school if time zones permit
    2. set-up with other schools if time zones permit
  8. Activities back at school during trip
  9. Connection to local school in target country, visit and set-up of collaboration project
  10. Maps (Interactive Maps- google maps and google earth)
  11. Collection and distribution of Resources (del.icio.us tags, links for blog and global studies, videos, etc. )
  12. Dissemination
    1. Blog Book- manuscript: format and design of book covers
    2. Conference proposals (due starting March before actual travel) and presentations throughout the year at state and national conferences
    3. Faculty presentations
    4. Contact, visits and presentations at other local schools
    5. Global Studies Website templates, information, examples, etc. update
    6. Creation of distribution material
    7. Submission of global studies program and experience of travel to educational magazines, journals and/or other publications
  13. Assessments
    1. Pre- and post school wide assessments
    2. Measurable activity outcomes
    3. Collection of evidence of school activities (lesson plans, photos, videos, final projects, immersion week of target grade)
    4. Documentation of yearly Art Day- photos, videos, audio

Action Research: Quality Writing on Blogs


In the month of March 2012, an International team of 4 elementary school classrooms are conducting Action Research about quality writing through blogging. You can support them by giving them an authentic global audience and modeling quality commenting on their posts.
