New Image for “What Could It Be” VoiceThread
I have added another a few more image on the What Could It Be VoiceThread.
What could the little round card next to the plate that reads “Yes Please. Sim Por Favor” from a Brazilian restaurant mean?

What could this cone mean in the hand of this 6 year old girl?

What could this pole raising in Sweden mean?

Silvia - This looks great. I’m going to share with some teachers on Monday who are developing a global education curriculum. I also have some pictures of Berlin, Prague, Florence, and Paris. Could you use those or do you want the pictures coming from students?
If you have time, think about posting your project here: http://globaleducation.ning.com
Thanks,
Lucy

Lucy,
Images can come from anyone. They don’t necessarily have to come from students. They just have to show a tradition, practice, custom, routine or perspective that would make people not native to that part of the world ask themselves “What Could it Mean?
Please send the images to “blog [at] langwitches [dot] org”
I will post on the Global Education Ning. Thank you for reminding me of that resource to disseminate.

Is there any key that actually tells you what this means?

Patricia,
Yes, I do have a key to the meaning of each image. I have not figured out yet how to make it available to the teachers who want to use the VoiceThread with their classes though.
The point of the VoiceThread is for the students to come up with their interpretation of what it means. Adding all the voices together will show that the same image has multiple points of view, depending on your background.
Let me know your thoughts on the importance of if and how to distribute a “key” to the images.

I recognize the tongs… I think. There is a fantasitic restaurant in Hyannis, MA (near my parent’s home) called the Brazilian Grill where servers come around throughout the meal with a variety of meat and seafood on a skewer to shave off pieces onto your plate. There is also an extensive buffet area with many side dishes. We don’t receive a paper disk, they just come by and ask. It is soooooo delicious and I always overeat. There are many Brazilian natives living on Cape Cod. Am I correct? (If not, I’ve given a great review for a fantastic restaurant if you’re ever on Cape Cod.

Nancy,
Yes, the tongs on the side is to help pick up the meat that the “Gauchos” shave off for you. We recently went to a Brazilian restaurant in Orlando, FL and they serve the same way.
