Books Around the World Meme

As a result of my post “Books I Read Around the World “, where I added a Google Map of books with settings in countries around the world I had read, I stumbled upon an amazing blog:
I have been diving deeper and deeper in this great resource of book recommendations that has the goal of finding
at least one excellent book for each country in the world. The book should help us learn something ABOUT that country and not just be one written by somebody who lives there.
I am going through each post/recommendation and am adding the books I plan to read to my shelfari account . Like this I will have them easily accessible (through my iPhone) when I end up in a book store and can’t remember the exact name of the title or author.
Here is the meme/challenge, you are invited to join. You can join, if you have been tagged or if you are tagging yourself.
- Create a Google Map and add a bookmark with the title and author of a book you have read with a setting in another country of the world.
- Look through Book Around the World recommendations or on other Google Maps created by participants in this meme/challenge.
- Pick at least three books for your summer reading list that have a setting in a country you have not read another book about.
- Enjoy expanding your horizon!
Here are my three books that I am planning on reading:
- New Zealand: The Bone People by Keri Hulme
- Israel: We Just Want to Live Here: A Palestinian Teenager, an Israli Teenager — an Unlikely Friendship by Amal Rifa’i, Odelia Ainbinder, Sylke Tempel
- Bosnia and Herzegovina: People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks
Here is the link to my Google Map of books I already have read.
Please feel free to participate in this meme/challenge if you are interested.
I am tagging the following people personally : Paige McGee, Katie Bennett, Kathy Balek , Andrea Hernandez , and Melanie Holtsman .

Listened to a great interview today on NPR about a book of novellas by a Jesuit priest. Each is set in a different country in Africa. Brutal stories of tough lives lived; stories told from the pov of the children living the experiences. http://tinyurl.com/5v8jjx
