4th graders were supposed to come to TechConnect today to practice some math facts with typical drill and kill activities found on funbrain.com. All the hairs on my neck stood up and I could not help but suggest a last minute change of “direction”.

What if we ask the students to use the SmartBoard Notebook software and record a screencast/tutorial about some of these math facts that they have been learning about in class?

“Gesagt, getan”, as we say in German (Said, Done)

I quickly demonstrated an example on the SmartBoard and let the kids go to the computers to CREATE!!!

These are 4th graders, their first time using the SmartBoard notebook software.

  • creating
  • teaching others
  • practicing their speaking skills
  • using technology to communicate across space and time
  • HAVING A GREAT TIME PLAYING AND EXPLORING THE SOFTWARE

    Hi,
I loved this activity! The kids did a wonderful job using the technology and explaining the math properties. And we all know that teaching others is one of the best ways to be sure you understand information yourself. Bravo to you!
