This video came to my attention through Dean Shareski’s blog.
It is an extremely fast presentation by Chris Lehman. He had to get his points across in 5 minutes.
I will need some time to go back and pause and play to be able to digest and REALLY hear what he had to say.
Here are some of the quotes that caught my attention in the first run though:
MIT’s Motto: Life Long Kindergarten
Caring Institutions- Teaching Kids not Subjects
It is about what the kids can do, what they can make
What happens at school is real life, not preperation for real life.
Recall based learning is obsolete
To see what kids have learned, give them a project
Certain Technologies are not additive, they are transformative- that is the way computers and technology should be at our schools.
Technology should be like oxygen: necessary and invisible, we need not think about it, it just needs to be there.
Make schools transparent, Invite the world to our schools
Schools need to dare the kids to research, collaborate, create, present and network
Wow, I am exhaused by listening to Chris, but feel exhilarated at the same time.
