Thinking Big as the World Gets Small

The cameras in their cell phones make them citizen journalists. The web is their personal library and media center. They communicate in real time with the ends of the earth. But can they convince their teachers to let them learn at school with help from such powerful tools? Beyond the “wow,” technology provides nearly limitless potential for connectivity and education. See examples of how today’s technologies — from calculators to the web, from music files to video-on-demand — can (and should) engage and teach a new generation of students.

UStream Session

Free TV : Ustream

The new workplace- wikis, blogs, podcasting, media, communities and content creation are real now in workspaces. This is the way we will work in school.

A few years ago, these things were not in school. More and more students are using this. Twittering, ustreaming, How could we ask them to turn off their laptops and cellphones. You can go deeper and share as the presenter is talking. What would kids do if we were to allow them to use these tools.

Examples:

Chat with Dubai, skype with Belgium. Kids can do this. Not unusual situation.

Phone a friend exams from Australia. We need to get access that is reliable and quickly. There are things that we need to know, but there is a lot of data that we spent too much time on memorizing, when we just need to have the skill to be able to access it quickly.
