Description:  Geocaching is contagious for both teachers and students! Professional development is electrified and classroom applications “rev up” student engagement. Come cache the excitement!

Geocaching with your classroom

Examples:

  • Travel Bugs
    • In the cache you will find a Travel bug (similar to a dog tag) attached to a stuffed animal or other trinket. Travel bugs might have their own websites. You can follow along with a tracking history.
    • Lends itself to creative writing
    • Release two bugs and compare which will go the furthest.

  • Puzzle Caches
    • Getting coordinates after solving a puzzle of problem
  • Data Collection
    • You need to collect and add data to this cache- ex. take an image, take temperature measurement
  • EarthCache
    • meant to teach about a particular area- might have to be a virtual cache
  • Campus Activity

Action Research: Quality Writing on Blogs


In the month of March 2012, an International team of 4 elementary school classrooms are conducting Action Research about quality writing through blogging. You can support them by giving them an authentic global audience and modeling quality commenting on their posts.
