Hi there,
These are some great ideas. We in Cave Creek Unified School District in Arizona have thought very heavily about using Moodle for student portfolios. Have you ever heard of using that? We have one school which has a program called Spanish Immersion, which is a language immersion school for students in K through 5th grades. We wanted to document their language development, among other things, through their school years. We thought each student could have a "Moodle" and each topic could be a school year.
Do you think this could work? We are looking for funding at this point for a server.
Thanks so much for your assistance.

Hi last year our school made the decision to move to mahara's platform for digital portfolios. It can sit on your servers and allows students to upload and or pieces of work including media they have produced, reflect on them with blogs and text boxes and it is a really user friendly interface. it also has a small social networking side to it, that allows students to create groups of friends with whom they can share the different "views" in their portfolios including their teachers and prospective universities.

Students and teachers also need to be aware that they may be creating a digital portfolio or identity whether they are aware of it or not. The implications of that have to be considered as well.
