Blogging in education is about quality and authentic writing in digital spaces with a global audience, while observing digital citizenship responsibilities and rights, as one documents, reflects, organizes and makes one’s learning and thinking visible and searchable!
Blogging is not analog writing in digital spaces.
Blogging is not an activity, but a process. The process includes reading, writing, commenting and connecting. It is about reciprocating and an emphasis on quality, not just publishing.
I agree. It definitely takes time and planning to ensure that children and teachers alike are proficient in following the process from start to finish. I am now into my second term of blogging with my class and still feel as though I am not utilising the blog to it’s full capacity. It is exciting the possibilities but at the same time quite daunting.
I agree as well, and I also admit it is daunting. However, having taught for two years with a process-oriented portfolio/blogging approach, I cannot imagine to ever drop this kind of writing for more traditional product-oriented writing tasks. Blogging does not only affect writing – it has the potential to change learning environments in their foundations – and change them to the better.
